MANGAL PANDEY - THE RISING !!!

Mangala…mangala…mangala…mangala…ho…In 1853, the East India Company soldiers fought against the Afghan soldiers. In that battle, an Indian soldier saved the life of his British colleague. The Indian and the British became good friends. On 31st December 1856, there was a New Year Party in Kolkata. An Indian servant was brutally harassed by a British person. Mr. Pandey rescued that poor servant who was becoming a victim of racism. Everyday Mangal used to bath on the river water of Ganges and perform Surya Pranaam. In Hindu religion, a sweeper was regarded as a person of low caste and was tagged as ‘untouchable’. Almost every morning, the sweeper used to collide with that Brahmin. The Brahmin always used to scold that untouchable sweeper. The sweeper gave the secret information that the British people have been using fats of cows and pigs in the cartridges. In the newly implemented rifles, one had to use the new type of cartridges. The new type of cartridges looked like a chocolate. They had to bite one end of the cartridge to take out the gun powder. The gun powder was first poured inside the rifle and then the bullet. Then a rod was used to mix the gunpowder and the bullet inside the rifle. After that, they used to pull the trigger of the rifle. No one was willing to use that rifle. Gordon assured everyone that these were rumors. Mangal believed Gordon as they were good friends. Mr. Pandey used the rifle by biting the fat of cows on that cartridge. Gordon was in love with a girl of a rich family. In the medieval era, Europe witnessed the sale of young girls in big markets. It was popularly known as flesh trade. The East India Company implemented flesh trade in India, though; it got completely banned in Great Britain. The girl who got sold was given a new name. Lol Bibi started giving tips to Hira on how to satisfy any man both physically and mentally. In a late night party, a discussion on free market was going on. The East India Company used to motivate the Indian farmers to do opium cultivation. All the opiums were bought from the Indian farmers at a very low price. These opiums were exported to China at a very high price. So, by this free market trade, the East India Company used to make huge profits. Somehow, Gordon realized that Kent was not fit for him as she was a very rich girl.

In Hindu religion, the Brahmins always used to dictate some new rules which were not even mentioned in Bhagawad Gita. In those days, minor girls were forcefully married to old Brahmins. When those old Brahmins used to die, their little wives were burned alive. The so- called Hindus used to call it as a ritual of ‘Sati’. Jwala was also in a same position, but, Gordon rescued her. The Hindu Zamindar requested Gordon to hand over the girl to the Hindus to burn her alive, but, Gordon rejected the proposal. Slowly and steadily, Jwala became the keep-girl of Gordon. Every night, Jwala loved to get banged by Gordon. On the other hand, Hira became a very popular mujra dancer. Tumhari adaayon mein…main vari vari. A British person tried to take Hira at his house, but, Mangal did not let it happen. An Investigating Officer from Great Britain raided a factory of Sorabjee, a Parsee businessman and found opiums. The East India Company became angry on Indian farmers as they were trying to sell opiums to other traders to get good prices of it. As a punishment, the East India Company decided to acquire all the lands of the opium farmers. The farmers protested against this decision. The East India Company ordered its soldiers to fire at poor farmers. The rebel farmers were killed mercilessly. Mangal realized that he had sold his souls in the hands of British people. Further investigations proved that the British people were really using the fats of cows and pigs in the cartridges. To stay in power in India, British people always applied the policy of Divide and Rule to break the unity among Indian Hindus and Indian Muslims. Mangal became furious on Gordon and promised to destroy the East India Company. On 12th February, 1857, the entire battalion got dismissed in Berhampore cantonment. The sepoy mutiny started from that day itself. The Mughal Badshahs and the Maratha Kings also joined hands with the rebel soldiers of East India Company. The East India Company realized that it was very hard to tackle 1 lakh Indian soldiers by around 40,000 British soldiers. They got all the secret information of the Indian rebels. The Berhampore battalion was halted midway. The Rangoon regiment of East India Company was ordered to reach India as early as possible. Mangal’s dream was shattered and hanged later on. But, the death of Mangal Pandey ignited the fire of rebellion among the freedom fighters of India. Lakshmi Bai , Nana Saheb carried forward the concept of “MANGAL PANDEY- THE RISING”.
