GANGS OF WASSEYPUR (PART - I) !!!

Insaan joh hai, baash doh nasal ke hote hain. Ek hote hain haraami aur doosre bewakuf, aur yeh saara khel inh dono ka hee hain. Before Indian Independence, Dhanbad was a part of the Undivided Bengal. Slowly and steadily, the British Government started reducing the areas of Bengal as mere formalities of their ‘Divide & Rule’ policies. After 1947, Dhanbad became a part of Bihar State. At present, the notorious place, Wasseypur is under Dhanbad District of Jharkhand state. In Wasseypur, it was a very old traditional fight between the Qureshis (the Butcher Caste of Muslims) and the people of other castes of Muslims. Wasseypur is actually situated near the Barakar River at the Jharkhand –West Bengal border. The East India Company discovered that the Dhanbad area is rich in natural mineral resources. That’s why; the British Government captured all the paddy fields and started mining for the Black Diamond. At that time, all the industries were heavily dependent on coals only.

In 1940’s, Sultana dacoit was an efficient wagon breaker in Dhanbad area. The British Government failed to arrest the Sultana dacoit and looting of the goods trains continued in that area. Sultana was a Qureshi and Shahid Khan was a Pathan. Pathans were of higher caste than the Qureshis. So, obviously, the ego problem and cold war existed between these two castes of Muslims for each other. Shahid Khan started looting the trains by using the name of Sultana. Kutta kabhi jaat nahi badalta, aur Shahid baa bhi waisa hee tha. The Qureshis attacked the Pathans. Shahid Khan and his family members were told to go out of Wasseypur area with a deal. Sultana had the last laugh. ‘Ek bagal mein chand hoga, ek bagal mein rotiyan.’ Shahid Khan settled down with his family members in Dhanbad. Shahid used to work as a labourer in a coal mine of Dhanbad. Nasir could have acted boldly against that Palwan, but, alas, Shahid’s wife died due to excessive bleeding while giving birth to Sardar Khan. Nasir felt himself guilty and kept on punishing himself. Shahid Khan killed the Palwan.

Pandit Jahawarlal Nehru declared that India got its Independence by accepting the ‘Shameful Partition Deal of India’ with the British Government. After Independence, several coal mines got distributed among Tatas, Birlas and Thapars. But, without the use of goons, it was impossible to do the coal business in Dhanbad. Ramadhir Singh, the owner of coal mines in Dhanbad utilized Shahid Khan as a goon. Shahid Khan had a plan to kill Ramadhir Singh to become the owner of all the coal mines in Dhanbad. Ramadhir Singh heard it. Shahid was ordered to go to Benaras to buy some guns from Yadav ji. Nasir understood the plan by seeing the big umbrella of Ramadhir. Ehsaan Qureshi came to kill Shahid’s son, but didn’t find anyone inside the house. ‘Pistol hain naa, humein dikhayenge’. The bullets pierced through the body of Shahid Khan. Sardar Khan became bald-headed and promised to take sweet revenge of his father’s murder.

Kya aap ko yeh nikah qabool hain? Sardar married Nagma Khatun. Nagma Khan understood the fire of revenge inside her hubby’s heart. After 1952, the concept of Trade Unions came inside the coal mines. But, in the name of Trade Unions, some Union Leaders started corruption and later on, they became the Mafias of Dhanbad region. Ramadhir Singh entered politics and won many seats in Bihar. Even J.P.Singh, the son of Ramadhir Singh also became an MLA of the region. After some accidents in the coal mines during 1960’s and considering the poor condition of the labourers in coal mines, the Indian Government started to nationalize the coal mines in 1972. Majority of the Coal Mines were handed over to Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL). S.P.Sinha protested against the corruption in coal mines. If you keep coals in waters and then dry them, the weights of coals increase at least by one and a half times of its original weight. Ramadhir Singh had to remove S.P.Sinha, the supervisor of BCCL to continue the corruption in the coal mines of Dhanbad.

Sardar Khan had an addiction towards sex workers despite having a wife in his house. Arrey! Yeh haraamjaadi bolti hain key eh Nagma hain. Bharwa saala! Raandibaaj! Aadmi toh yeh galat payda ho gaye hain. Ghoriyon ka astabal mein baash ek ghoda hona chaiye. Nagma gave birth to Danish Khan. Asgar Khan, the cousin brother of Sardar Khan became the driver of J.P.Singh. Ei, roj 500 truck ka tanki full hota hain idhaar. Sardar, Asgar and Nasir looted a petrol pump of Ramadhir Singh. ‘Teri Kaheke Loonga’. Sardar Khan started looting many assets of Ramadhir Singh to become rich and powerful in that region. Ramadhir Singh had a plan to settle down with Sardar Khan in a meeting with the Senior Inspector (SP) of Dhanbad Police Station. But, alas, the MLA J.P.Singh was totally humiliated inside the Dhanbad Police Station. Sardar and Asgar went to jail. ‘Bidhayak J.P.Singh ko kut diye SP ke office mein, woh bhi uske baap ke saamne. Sardar Khan naam hain hamara.’ Why Ramadhir Singh slapped Ehsaan Qureshi?

Yeh hain Pappu ji, Punjab se. Bomb banane mein ustaad. In 1979, 21 prisoners escaped from Dhanbad Jail by using the bombs that Pappu prepared inside the jail. After escaping from Dhanbad jail, Asgar and Sardar remained hidden in Qamar Maqdoomi’s house. Durga, the Bengali girl of Asansol was abducted by Sultan to make her a sex worker. But, Qamar rescued her. After seeing the hot body of Bengali Babe, the Bihari Babu fell in love. You can’t clap with one hand. Beya ho gaya hain? Itna bada ho gayi ho, abhi tak beya nahi hua? ‘Ye ji mein lukaye, lo ji lotanniya, Aa ha womaniya, maange joh baguna, prem nishaniyan.’ Sardar took the responsibility of Durga after the holy vibrations. Nagma felt depressed after hearing about the 2nd marriage of her husband. Tum sahi ho, woh marad hain. Toh aap kaahe nahi muh maarte? What did Faizal Khan, the 2nd son of Sardar Khan saw about her mother? Were Nagma and Nasir able to control their basic instincts on that night? Faizal fell in love with a girl who always loved to watch films.

Sultan Qureshi, the son of Sultana’s sister was ruling in Wasseypur. Maqdoomi requested Sardar to start the attack in Wasseypur. Sardar killed J.P.Singh’s Palwaan. Sardar Khan and his men started bombarding in Wasseypur on the day of Muharram. ‘Maar! Maar! Bomb Maar!’ Nagma became pregnant for the 3rd time. Uh pe bhi pet se kar diye ho kya? Durga also became pregnant. Humko baccha paida karne wala machine nahi banna hain. Toh kaun bana raha hain. Arrey! Yeh toh pyar hain. Danish took money from Ramadhir Singh and got beaten up by his mother. The two brothers came to know about the history of their grandfather. In Hirapur, some men abducted a girl and gang-raped her. What happened to those rapists? Who tried to utilize Sultan by supplying arms and ammunitions? Danish was alive after getting shot by Sultan. In 1990’s, Danish Khan planned to start the business of fisheries. Why Faizal Khan went to jail? Who married Shama Parveen Qureshi? Who killed the killer of Shahid Khan? To whom did Durga made a call to inform about Sardar Khan? Woh nikal gaye!  Was Sardar Khan still alive? ‘Jeeya hain Bihar ke laala, jeeya tu hazaar saala, tani nachi gaayi sab ke mann bhayelawa re bhaiya.’ Tension kahe lete ho babua; kyon ki kahani abhi baaki hain. This was just the end of Anurag Kashyap’s “GANG OF WASSEYPUR (PART – I).”
