Maharaja Ranjit Singh created a powerful Sikh Kingdom by defeating all the Afghan rulers in the north-western part of India. After Maharaja Ranjit Singh's death, the Gulistan fort came under the control of the British Empire. But, the British Empire faced frequent attacks from the Afghans. So, the British Empire decided to create a '36 SIKH Regiment' and posted 21 Sikh soldiers in Saragarhi Fort to control the area from Afghani invasions. Russians were trying to conquer Afghanistan. To wage war against Russians, the Afghan rulers used to take loans from the British Empire. In between, some muslim maulvis tried to unite all the Muslim rulers to invade India. Who beheaded that Afghan girl ? The Battle of Saragarhi started in the morning hours of 12th September 1897. The British forces gave the message that they cannot reach the Saragarhi fort before the afternoon. The 21 Sikh soldiers decided to fight against the 10,000 Muslim soldiers to defend the Saragarhi Fort being conquered before afternoon, so, that, the British forces get enough time to unite with full force and march towards the fort.
